Project Countach

2019 was my first post-divorce year, so I slowed down my progress significantly on the car project as I didn't have the urgency to finish it anymore, and I wanted to focus on other things in my life like flying and spending time with my kids more. I also began investing more funds to the project. This will become a problem later on because the more funds I invested to purchase the correct products, the more I discovered how many corners I did cut previously. This was the year of the OEM windshield and rough primer coating. I also started to weld the window frames to the doors. In October I purchased another house and moved the project there as my plan at the time was to work on it more and have it closer to me. The garage it was in previously was at my rental house.

These are from October of 2018. This was the first time the car was driven around the cul-de-sac and parked outside. It was finally starting to feel like a real car! These are the first overall side pics I got of the car so that I could compare it to the real one.

Here are some selections from 2018. This may have been my most productive year on the project. After given a firm "push" into completing the project in 2017, I ramped up my time spent on the car and progress, however this was the year all of the corners I was cutting was taking a toll on the work. I wasn't happy with the seats so I started making "Countach" seats out of fiberglass (which weren't great). The dashboard was made out of an old bookshelf and covered with fiberglass. I was proud of the vinyl work though. I spent a lot of time learning how to sew for this. Next was what seemed to be an endless string of failed windshield attempts. Finally getting fed up and just buying a reproduction windshield for over $1000 on Ebay. This is a textbook example of working harder and not smarter and doing everything the wrong and/or cheap way before learning to do it the right and cost-appropriate way.
