2014 Progress

Some picture selections from my progress during 2014 while experimenting with different foams and modeling compounds. It's hard these days for me to think of all this work I did at that time to get to the body mold. This seems like a lifetime ago. For anyone interested in doing the same thing, I do not recommend expanding foam for this. The best material was the insulation foam that can be found at hardware stores like Home Depot. Use a rasp to make a rough contour and cover with drywall mud (joint compound). Then use a flapper disc to sand down quickly to the shape you want. This takes a lot of patience and talent, or patience and trial and error to get the body lines right. Even then I did not get everything 100% right.

Fabrication Work June 2022

So far June and July have been extremely productive months for the car project. There were times when I couldn't stop to take pictures because I was too caught up in the momentum of building! I started the month by removing the engine and transmission from the old chassis and setting them aside. I then mocked up the fake engine with the appropriate mounts and welded it to the new chassis, and then bolted on the transmission. Next, I added the headers to allow for visualization of the drive train. It took a few days to measure and place the engine but the end result was worth it. I also took the body off the old frame and dragged it out to the driveway. The next task was to begin on the steering system and starting to get the ergonomics correct. So for this, I needed to order proper seats. I bought replica Countach seats from ebay and was super happy when they arrived as they were very nice quality and allowed me to continue! Fabrication work October and November 2022

October was spent taking a few trips and relaxing. When I was working on the car, I did not take any pictures. I didn't realize this until November, when I went on a sudden picture burst. The chassis has been coming along at a quick pace and I re-installed the seats, front wheels and steering yesterday to re-check fitment and ergonomics. I just received the new gas pedal, which I will be installing today. On order for this weekend is the wiring harness which will be routed through the frame next week. I need to re-install the body to fabricate the door stops and frame, as well as the same for the hood/trunk(s). Also on order are some door strikers and latches which will be used for all openings. I plan to install the new engine maybe during holiday break, or early next year. I still need to secure the rear sub-assembly with actual bolts (also TBD when body is back on for wheel fitment confirmation.

RIP Odie

    It's with great sadness that I need to report that my dog Odie, died this past week. He had been suffering from seizures for only a couple of weeks. I first found him shaking on the couch one day and I had no idea what was happening to him. I then found him laying in the ditch next to the crawlspace door, panting and not able to move. After a few scans, we determined it was a brain tumor, but nothing out of the ordinary for a dog his age. The prognosis was 6-9 months originally. We got him stabilized with meds and things were fine for a week. My boys and I were on vacation when it happened, with the dog sitter frantically calling me after a long night of trying to keep him calm through another round of seizures. Since she is elderly, she wasn't able to lift him, and it was on Wednesday, so everyone she knew on her street were off to work. It was only after my son was able to call his Mom that she was able to finally get help. Kudos to my ex wife for traveling the 4...
