Design Work Feb 2022

 Lots of design work in February! I went through several iterations of frame design in CAD. I also utilized our 3D printer for each iteration. I think I am close to a final design. I am certainly able to start work on the main frame backbone (the 2x4 steel), but details like seat size, body position, etc. I am still trying to work out. Like I tell my boys, we can design this a million times in CAD easily but making changes once we cut and weld are a lot more difficult (and expensive)!

The final design will be based on the lowest one in the 3rd pic below.

Yes, I still have our Christmas tree up. It's cheerful and helps my depression.

Pausing the Blog

 Happy 2024! I decided to put this blog on pause. I feel like I am writing to nobody and interest in this project is nonexistent. I won't delete it in case I am proven wrong, but for now I just don't see the point in writing for what is most likely me re-visiting and re-reading the words I have already written. Do people even read blogs anymore? I plan to leave Amazon in March after a very rough year with them. Even leaving has been an uphill battle. In any case, I sold the rental property and now I have about 1-2 years worth of savings. I realize quitting a job right now in this economy with all sorts of societal problems happening isn't good timing, and I am constantly reminded of that, but when is the right time? Fabrication Work June 2022

So far June and July have been extremely productive months for the car project. There were times when I couldn't stop to take pictures because I was too caught up in the momentum of building! I started the month by removing the engine and transmission from the old chassis and setting them aside. I then mocked up the fake engine with the appropriate mounts and welded it to the new chassis, and then bolted on the transmission. Next, I added the headers to allow for visualization of the drive train. It took a few days to measure and place the engine but the end result was worth it. I also took the body off the old frame and dragged it out to the driveway. The next task was to begin on the steering system and starting to get the ergonomics correct. So for this, I needed to order proper seats. I bought replica Countach seats from ebay and was super happy when they arrived as they were very nice quality and allowed me to continue! Fabrication work October and November 2022

October was spent taking a few trips and relaxing. When I was working on the car, I did not take any pictures. I didn't realize this until November, when I went on a sudden picture burst. The chassis has been coming along at a quick pace and I re-installed the seats, front wheels and steering yesterday to re-check fitment and ergonomics. I just received the new gas pedal, which I will be installing today. On order for this weekend is the wiring harness which will be routed through the frame next week. I need to re-install the body to fabricate the door stops and frame, as well as the same for the hood/trunk(s). Also on order are some door strikers and latches which will be used for all openings. I plan to install the new engine maybe during holiday break, or early next year. I still need to secure the rear sub-assembly with actual bolts (also TBD when body is back on for wheel fitment confirmation.
